The ancient sangam work Natrinai Poems 6, 52, 265 and 320 have references to Valvil Ori.

நற்றிணை 6, பரணர், குறிஞ்சித் திணை – தலைவன் தன் நெஞ்சுக்கு சொன்னது
நீர் வளர் ஆம்பல் தூம்புடைத் திரள் கால்
நார் உரித்தன்ன மதன் இல் மாமை
குவளை அன்ன ஏந்து எழில் மழைக் கண்
திதலை அல்குல் பெருந்தோள் குறுமகட்கு
எய்தச் சென்று செப்புநர்ப் பெறினே
இவர் யார் என்குவள் அல்லள் முனாஅது
அத்தக் குமிழின் கொடு மூக்கு விளை கனி
எறி மட மாற்கு வல்சி ஆகும்
வல் வில் ஓரி கானம் நாறி
இரும் பல் ஒலிவரும் கூந்தல்
பெரும் பேதுறுவள் யாம் வந்தனம் எனவே.

Natrinai 6, Paranar, Kurinji Thinai – What the hero said to his heart
Her dark beauty
is like the fiber-removed
stems of thick, white waterlilies
and her moist eyes are like
blue waterlilies that rise up.
The loins of this beauty
have yellow beauty spots.

If there is a messenger
to talk to this pretty young girl
with thick arms,
she without malice will not ask,
“who is he?”

The girl with thick black hair
with the fragrances of forests
owned by Ōri owning mighty bows,
……….where frolicking, delicate deer
……….eat ripe kumilam fruits with curved
……….tips that grow along the forest paths,
will be very happy, if she knows that I have
come.

மாக் கொடி அதிரல் பூவொடு பாதிரித்
தூத் தகட்டு எதிர்மலர் வேய்ந்த கூந்தல்
மணம் கமழ் நாற்றம் மரீஇ யாம் இவள்
சுணங்கு அணி ஆகம் அடைய முயங்கி
வீங்கு உவர்க் கவவின் நீங்கல் செல்லேம்
நீயே ஆள் வினை சிறப்ப எண்ணி நாளும்
பிரிந்து உறை வாழ்க்கை புரிந்து அமையலையே
அன்பு இலை வாழி என் நெஞ்சே வெம் போர்
மழவர் பெரு மகன் மா வள் ஓரி
கை வளம் இயைவது ஆயினும்
ஐது ஏகு அம்ம இயைந்து செய் பொருளே.

Natrinai 52, Pālathanar, Pālai Thinai – What the hero said to his heart
May you live long, my heart!  You want to
earn wealth without any consideration!

You don’t understand the life of separation
from my beautiful girl who adorns her hair
with athiral flowers from dark vines woven
together with pāthiri flowers with pure
petals, which together spread their full
their full fragrance.  You have no kindness.

I will not leave the sweet embraces of the
woman with pallor spots on her breasts,
even if I earn wealth like that of the generous,
great, victorious and charitable brave King Ōri.

That is not more than her love!

இறுகு புனம் மேய்ந்த அறு கோட்டு முற்றல்
அள்ளல் ஆடிய புள்ளி வரிக் கலை
வீளை அம்பின் வில்லோர் பெருமகன்
பூந்தோள் யாப்பின் மிஞிலி காக்கும்
பாரத்து அன்ன ஆர மார்பின்
சிறு கோல் சென்னி ஆரேற்றன்ன
மாரி வண் மகிழ் ஓரி கொல்லிக்
கலி மயில் கலாவத்து அன்ன இவள்
ஒலி மென் கூந்தல் நம் வயினானே.

Natrinai 265, Paranar, Kurinji Thinai – What the hero said to his heart
The women with luxuriant, delicate
hair is ours,

lovely like Pāram town protected
by Mignili wearing shoulder shields
on his garlanded shoulders, leader of
archers with whistling arrows who
hunt grazing mature stags with spots,
stripes and broken antlers, cavorting
in the mud,

lovely like Āretru town of the Chōla king
with an āthi flower garland and a small
scepter,

and lovely like the plumes of clamorous
peacocks in the Kolli Mountain of
Ōri, owning liquor and as charitable as
the rain.

நற்றிணை 320, கபிலர், மருதத் திணை – பரத்தை சொன்னது
விழவும் மூழ்த்தன்று முழவும் தூங்கின்று
எவன் குறித்தனள் கொல் என்றி ஆயின்
தழை அணிந்து அலமரும் அல்குல் தெருவின்
இளையோள் இறந்த அனைத்தற்கு பழ விறல்
ஓரிக் கொன்ற ஒரு பெருந் தெருவில்
காரி புக்க நேரார் புலம் போல்
கல்லென்றன்றால் ஊரே அதற்கொண்டு
காவல் செறிய மாட்டி ஆய் தொடி
எழில் மா மேனி மகளிர்
விழுமாந்தனர் தம் கொழுநரைக் காத்தே.

Natrinai 320, Kapilar, Marutham Thinai – What the concubine said about another concubine who was flaunting
The festivities have ended and
drums have stopped roaring.
The young woman walks on the
street with her leaf skirt,
swaying her hips as she goes.

I wonder what she is thinking!
The whole town laughs with
great uproar,
like when Kāri killed Ōri of
ancient victories, and then
went to his huge street,
and Ōri’s people raised uproars.

Dark-colored, pretty women
with well-made bangles are
protecting their husbands from her.
